Hudson’s is a transformative mixed-use development that sparks connection, inspires ambition and serves as a platform for creativity and innovation.
Designed by world-renowned SHoP Architects and spanning more than 1.5 million square feet across two distinct buildings, Hudson's is a global destination that features Class A office space including the future home of General Motors’ world headquarters, The Detroit EDITION and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION, a retail collection, food + beverage, an event venue and activated public spaces.
A new plaza between the tower and the office building anchors the center of the development — creating a unique gathering space for tenants and visitors alike.
The plaza will create a vibrant streetscape linking Woodward Avenue to the historic Library Square.
A seven-story tall central office atrium will offer natural light and park-like features.
Atop the office block will be a rooftop food and beverage venue with an outdoor terrace offering spectacular city views.
Throughout the property, a range of progressive restaurants, bars and cafés will provide a variety of dining options.
Rotating seasonal and cultural activations will create a destination for all of Detroit.
Floors 2 + 3 will have a range of event and meeting spaces to accommodate everything from corporate functions and large conferences to weddings.
The Hudson’s retail collection will be filled with a mix of local and international brands.
Office users will have direct access to onsite underground parking spaces.
Sustainability is a priority at Hudson’s. Designed with a goal of achieving LEED certification, this will ensure best-in-class technology and performance for a healthy workplace environment while contributing to a more sustainable future.
For generations, J.L. Hudson Department Store was the premier retailer in Detroit and one of the most important department stores in the country. As the store’s physical footprint grew over the decades, so too did its place in the collective hearts and minds of Detroiters.
Throughout its life, J.L. Hudson Department Store would undergo 12 expansions, ultimately reaching a height of 25 stories and covering an entire city block.
At one time the largest department store in the United States, J.L. Hudson Department Store broke ground in 1891. The massive flagship store anchored the bustling Woodward Avenue corridor and was a destination location for both domestic and international shopping enthusiasts.
Despite its impressive history and outsized presence in Detroit, J.L. Hudson Department Store closed its doors in 1983, and was eventually demolished, but Bedrock has ensured that the history of the site is echoed in the new Hudson’s Detroit.
Bedrock is a full-service real estate firm specializing in innovative city building strategies. Since its founding in 2011, Bedrock and its affiliates have invested and committed more than $7.5 billion to acquire, develop and operate more than 140 properties in Detroit and Cleveland.
